The short answer
Select the Mid-Autumn moon theme in the Style tab. The code is redrawn with a full moon between its dots and a beaded ring around it, error correction switches to level H, and it remains a standard QR code that ordinary phone cameras read. On mooncake boxes, print it on a light, matte label at least 5 cm (2 in) across the ring, and make it dynamic so the same box can point to next year’s pre-orders.

How to make a Mid-Autumn Festival QR code
Decide what the box or card opens
Flavor and allergen details, a storage and shelf-life note, a greeting video from your company, a pre-order page or a lantern-fair map.
Create a dynamic code
Save a dynamic URL code per product line, or per client if you send corporate gift boxes, so each can be tracked and changed separately.
Choose a moon or lantern theme
In Style, open Holiday & art themes. Mid-Autumn moon has a full moon and a ring; Red lantern and Lantern Festival suit lantern fairs and evening events.
Give it a matte label
Mooncake boxes are often gold, embossed or lacquered. Print the code on a light paper label or a matte panel instead of the decorated lid.
Proof with the packaging supplier
Ask for a printed sample of the box with the code in place, and scan it at arm’s length under shop lighting.
Size, distance and placement
- Code type
- Dynamic URL code with the Mid-Autumn moon theme; standard QR, level H error correction
- Mooncake box label
- At least 5 cm (2 in) across the ring, so the code inside is about 2.5 cm, on a matte label
- Greeting card
- Same minimum, on a plain area away from embossing and foil
- Lantern fair sign
- Read from 1–2 m at night: the code itself 15–20 cm (6–8 in), lit from the front
- Corporate gift boxes
- One dynamic code per client shows whose box was scanned and lets you change each page separately
- Dates
- The festival falls on 15 September 2027 and 3 October 2028; packaging is often ordered two months ahead
- After the festival
- Repoint to a thank-you page, a recipe or next year’s pre-order list
Why mooncake boxes need a dynamic code
Mooncake packaging is ordered months before the festival, often before the final flavors, prices or delivery dates are fixed. A static code prints those guesses into every box. A dynamic code lets you settle the page after the boxes are printed, switch to a thank-you or recipe page after the festival, and reuse the same box design next year with a new pre-order link. Separate codes per client also show which corporate gift boxes were scanned. The moon theme is free; blending your own photo or artwork into the code requires Pro.
Common mistakes
Tip: link the box code to storage instructions and the best-before date as well as the greeting. Mooncakes are often passed on as gifts, and the second recipient needs that information most.
Frequently asked questions
Can I put a full-moon design in a QR code for mooncake boxes?
Yes. Choose the Mid-Autumn moon theme: the moon shows between the dots, the corner markers stay solid and error correction is set to H, so it remains a standard, scannable QR code.
How big should the QR code be on a mooncake box?
Keep the square code at least 2.5 cm wide, about 5 cm including the ring, on a light, matte label away from foil and embossing.
Is there a lantern theme too?
Yes. Red lantern and Lantern Festival are both free themes, and the Lantern Festival version adds a beaded ring like the moon theme.
Can each client get a different code on the same box design?
Yes. Create one dynamic code per client with the same theme; the box artwork stays identical apart from the code.
